It’s not all work at designSimple. Recently, my wife, designer Sheryl Scott, and I decided to take a letterpress course at Pasadena’s Armory Art Center. Under the tutelage of expert printer Denise Figueredo, we learned the basics of letterpress printing using mostly a Vandercook flatbed and a big old motorized Chandler & Price platen press. I took the opportunity to make some promo giveaways and a tiny experimental book.

__ This all lead to my catching letterpress fever, joining a listserv, and purchasing two presses, various fonts and furniture (letterpress lingo for wood and metal spacers), and other old-fashiony printing accoutrements. So now I share my office space with a C&P Pilot and a Vandercook proof press, both neglected for lack of spare time, but still beautiful to look at.
